Manipur States General Knowledge

Prior to joining the Indian Union, Manipur was a princely state under the British crown, which was included in India through a merger agreement in September 1949 by Government of India. In 1956 it became a Union Territory of India, while on 21st January, 1972, it became a full-fledged state.

There is a very popular and interesting short story in the Hindu religion about Manipur, which I want to tell you all, that is something like that Shri Krishna was performing Raas Leela with Radha ji and other Gopis and Requested Shiv ji to monitor the place where Raas leela was being performed, Shiv ji accepted his request. When Parvati ji saw Shiv ji monitoring that particular place, she was very surprised and decided to go to that place to know what was so special about that place, after many requests, Shiv ji allowed her to go there. Parvati ji was so impressed by the Ras leela of Shri Krishna and other Gopis that she also decided to perform Ras leela with Shiva. For this Goddess Parvati and Shiv ji together started searching for a secret place, they were in search of such a place which should be a secret place surrounded by mountains where there is greenery and beauty, after searching a lot they found a secret place and that Today we know that place by the name of Manipur, about which we will discuss further.

  • Manipur is a North East state of India which is one of the four states of India bordering Myanmar. Manipur literally means the land of gems, India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru called it the land of jewelry because different types of jewelry are manufactured here using handicrafts. Manipur has a total of 16 districts and its capital is Imphal.
  • The peaceful climate, green environment, and beautiful lakes attract millions of tourists every year.
  • The history of Manipur state is very old and long which is very difficult to cover in this blog so for now, just know that Manipur was the last among the states to be free from British rule, the Government of India declared it Union Territory in 1956 and it was granted full statehood by the Government of India on January 21, 1972, so Manipur celebrates its foundation day on January 21.

Three states of India celebrate their foundation day on 21 January which is as follows

  • 1-Meghalaya
  • 2-Tripura
  • 3-Manipur
  •  So Meghalaya, Tripura, and Manipur celebrate their foundation day on 21st January. These three states were established in the year 1972.
